National Board of Directors

At each even year National Convention, alumni and undergraduate members are elected to terms of office on our National Board of Directors.  The Board members, with the exception of the Executive Vice President (a.k.a. Executive Director), are non-paid, volunteer positions.  The board meets in person twice each year, as well as via numerous conference calls, to discuss issues facing our fraternity, and to evaluate the status of our fraternity's programs and operations.  Our National Officers are elected to two year terms by the Directors.

Our National Board of Directors currently consists of the following volunteers:

Shawn Hoke

Shawn Hoke, Phi Alpha 1995 - National President

Brother Hoke is a graduate of Clarion University of Pennsylvania and an alumnus of the Phi Alpha Chapter.  After receiving his B.S. in Communication from Clarion, he worked as a member of the Fraternity's national staff for three years, eventually serving as Executive Director.  He left the staff to pursue a master's degree in Higher Education Administration and Student Personnel at Kent State University.  He received his M.Ed. from Kent State in 2001 and is currently employed as the Assistant Director of Campus Life at Clarion.

Brother Hoke is a volunteer for the American Red Cross, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  Additionally, he maintains professional memberships in the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA) and the National Association Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).  He resides in Shippenville, PA, with his wife Rayna and their three children Kaylee, Gabrielle and Collin.

 

Richard Jones

Richard Jones, Nu 1964 - Vice President of Standards and Risk Management

Brother Jones served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force for five years.  Afterwards, he became a pilot with Delta Air Lines and is currently the captain of a B-767.  He has been the President of the Nu Alumni Association and was appointed to the National Board of Directors in 1997.  Brother Jones currently lives in Palatine, IN, a suburb of Chicago.

Mark Lungren

Mark Lundgren, Nu 1970 - Vice President of Finance and Administration

Brother Lundgren is the Director of the Office of Border Stations for the Great Lakes Region of the U.S. General Services Administration.  He has earned an A.B. from Indiana University, an M.S. with Distinction from DePaul University, a Certificate in Advanced Management from The University of Chicago, and an Executive Program Certificate from Texas A&M University.  He holds the AICP designation as a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.  He has served as the Chair of the Federal Planning Division of the American Planning Association and as President of Leif Ericson Viking Ship, Inc., a nonprofit educational organization.  Brother Lundgren lives in Chicago, IL, with his wife, Kenda, where he serves as President of his condominium association.

Jeff S. Howard

Jeff S. Howard, Tau Beta 1997 - Vice President of Education

Brother Howard served as a founding father of the Tau Beta Chapter at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in 1994.  He served as Junior Tribune and Senior Tribune, as well as the IFC Recruitment Chair and Editor of the Greek Column. He has served as an undergraduate delegate, alumni delegate, and as a facilitator to the Williams Leadership Academy and National Convention.  He is a member of the Order of Omega and Gamma Sigma Alpha.

Brother Howard has over ten years experience in higher education and student affairs and is currently completeing coursework towards a doctorate of education in leadership and policy analysis.  Brother Howard is married Lainey, the sister of one of his KDR Chapter Brothers.  They met when he volunteered to help a KDR Brother by assisting him in moving his sister from one apartment to another.  He is now a firm believer in community service.  He completed his B.S. in History and Political Science in 1997 and his M.A. in History in 2002, both from ETSU. 

Gerald E. Stebbins

Gerald E. Stebbins, Phi Apha 1987 - Vice President of Alumni Affairs

Brother Stebbins is a native of Perry County, PA, He is a founding father of the Phi Alpha Chapter at Clarion University.  He served in the role of Praetor for two years as an undergraduate.  After graduation, he served on the Alumni Corporation of Phi Alpha and later as Alumni Advisor to Phi Alpha, Theta Alpha, Mu Alpha, and Kappa Beta.  He has served as a facilitator and presenter at many Williams Leadership Academies over the past 15 years.  He received the Order Honoris, Psi 2004.

In the real world, Brother Stebbins serves as the Associate Dean of Student Life at Washington and Jefferson College.  He is the husband of Karen and father to Elias, Olivia, and Anna.  Other interests include local politics where he served as a Councilman and Mayor of East Washington Borough in Pennsylvania.  He serves as Assistant Baseball Coach and Den Leader.  His passions are golf, fishing, and camping at the family farm.

Scott Smaniotto

Scott Smaniotto, Alpha Beta 1993 - Treasurer

Brother Smaniotto received both his bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from the University of Delaware.  He served his Alumni Corporation in several capacities including, Alumnus Advisor, Vice President, and Treasurer.  In 2000, he was asked to join the Finance Committee and in 2002 was elected to the National Board.  He has been Treasurer since 2004.  In addition to Treasurer, he serves as the Director of Insurance Programs, representing the Fraternity on the board of FRMT.  Brother Smaniotto is a Senior Risk Manager for GE Consumer Finance and resides in Trumbull, CT, with his wife Suzanne and sons Christopher and Anthony.

Dr. Gerald L. Murray

Dr. Gerald L. Murray, Theta 1966 - Secretary

Brother Murray graduated from Purdue University where he was a member of Theta Chapter.  He also holds an M.A. in Student Personnel Administration from Ball State University, an M.S. in Industrial Psychology from Purdue University, and an Ed.D. from the University of Virginia.

Brother Murray is active in the United Methodist Church as a Certified Lay Speaker.  He is an enthusiastic antique automobile collector and enjoys showing his cars with the Central Indiana Old Car Club.  He is also a 30-year member of the Rolls-Royce Owners Club of America.  Among other civic activities, he is proud to be a past president of the Muncie Noon Optimist Club.

Brother Murray has been a member of Theta Foundation, the alumni corporation for Theta Chapter, since 1967, serving as President from 1973 until 1988.  He was elected to the National Board of Directors in 1974 and has served continuously for more than 30 years.

A faculty member at Ball State University in Muncie, IN, for more than 35 years, Brother Murray is Associate Director of Academic Advising and Associate Professor.  He lives in Daleville, IN, with his wife Sandra, who is an elementary teacher with Burris Laboratory School, a division of Ball State University.  They are the parents of two daughters.

Brian Stumm

Brian Stumm, Iota Beta 1992 - Director

Brother Stumm is the Director of Product Research for ETCO, Inc., where he is responsible for the corporation's new product R&D efforts.  Along with his undergraduate degree, he holds a graduate degree in mechanical engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology and is finishing a graduate degree in electrical engineering from Penn State University.  He served as the President of Iota Beta's Alumni Corporation from 1994 to 2000.  Brother Stumm lives in Rhode Island with his wife Janet.

Jon Kapell

Jon Kapell, Eta Beta 1995 - Director

Brother Kapell is a 1995 graduate of the Eta Beta Chapter at West Chester University where he received his degree in communication studies.  He went on to attend graduate school at Rider University earning his master's degree in human services administration in 1998.  Following graduate school, Jon worked for the University of Massachusetts - Amherst and Drexel University, and now works at the University of North Carolina Wilmington campus where he oversees the Campus Activities and Involvement Center.

Away from campus, Brother Kapell is an avid golfer and loves spending time with his friends and their families.

John G. Miers

John G. Miers, Beta 1966 - Director

Brother Miers has worked as a grants management specialist, budget officer, administrative officer, management analyst, science policy specialist, and the Director of the Office of Diversity and Employee Advocacy Programs in the National Institute of Mental Health.  He retired in 2005 from the NIH Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity Management where he served as the Senior Advisor for Disability Issues.

He has served on the board of St. Luke's House, a halfway house in Montgomery County, MD, for persons with mental illness, and was a member of the Montgomery County Commission for People with Disabilities for six years, including one year as Vice Chair.  In 2004, John received the Taff Award from the City of Rockville, MD, for his efforts on behalf of persons with disabilities.  John was the Chair of the DHHS Commission on Employees with Disabilities, and he was the Convener for the Task Force on Accessibility and Special Needs for the Episcopal Diocese of Washington before being elected to the Diocesan Council.

He produced a Power Point presentation entitled "Diversity INCLUDES Disability," which has been presented across the country, and has also published an essay for parents entitled "So Your Child Has Epilepsy - So Do I!" John has been appointed to the National Commission on Science, Technology and Faith for the Episcopal Church and is active in his local church, where he is in the choir, worship committee, pastoral care committee, and the prayer team.  He also visits patients in a local hospital on behalf of the chaplain.

Joseph Krebs, Eta Alpha 2007 - Director

Brother Krebs, from Waynesboro, PA, is currently an active member of the Eta Alpha Chapter at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, PA.  Initiated in January 2004, Brother Krebs has dedicated his time and efforts toward upholding the standards of membership in Kappa Delta Rho.  While working towards a B.S. B.A. in Hospitality Management with a minor in international communications, Brother Krebs has taken pride in all he has been able to accomplish during his collegiate career.  A member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the Robert Morris University International Honors Program, he also has found time for numerous philanthropic and community service-related events, including weekly trips Mariner Health nursing home and Sewickley Community Center for Underprivledged Children.  Within the Fraternity, Brother Krebs has served as Pontifex, Senior Tribune, and the head of numerous chairs.  Upon graduation he hopes to obtain a job working in the hotel industry.

Wes Madara

Wes Madara, Iota 2007 - Director

Brother Madara is currently an economics major at Bucknell University.  In his time at Bucknell, he has served as Consul, Quaestor, Peer Advisor, and House Manager as well as having served on the Philanthropy and Community Service Committee, Rush Committee, and Social Committee.

Robert Corrie

Robert Corrie, Beta 1953 - Director Emeritus

Brother Corrie graduated from Cornell University in 1953, where he was a member of the Beta Chapter.  Bob earned his M.B.A. from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 1957.  After retiring from the National Westminster Bank, USA, as Vice President and Deputy Controller, he spent 15 years as a Risk Management consultant with an office in New York City.  He currently resides with his wife Ann in Williamsburg, VA.  Brother Corrie has served the National Fraternity as Treasurer for a 20-year term, Vice President of Finance, and Vice President of Development.  He currently serves as Chair of the Ordo Honoris Selection Committee.  Brother Corrie has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Kappa Delta Rho Foundation since 1984 and currently serves as Treasurer.  He is active in his local church as a member of the Finance Committee, works for the United Way as a member of the Quota and Admissions Committee, and is the Vice President of the Lyric Foundation for Traditional Poetry.  He is currently President of the Residents Association at Williamsburg Landing, a retirement community in Williamsburg.

Robert Lynd

Robert Lynd, Iota 1967 - Past President / Director Emeritus

Brother Lynd graduated from Bucknell University in 1967, where he was a member of the Iota Chapter.  Bob later went on to Georgetown University Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree.  Brother Lynd was a corporate attorney with Verizon for 30 years, based mostly in Baltimore, MD, and Washington, DC.  He is now retired and currently resides in Chocowinity, NC, with his wife Janet.  Brother Lynd began his service to Kappa Delta Rho when he was appointed as an undergraduate member of the Board of Directors in 1966.  In 1972, Bob became a National Vice President and in 1974 he became the President of the Fraternity.  While in office, Kappa Delta Rho saw an explosion in growth onto new campuses and the expansion of both National Staff and the services they provide.  His successful leadership of our organization, combined with his professional accomplishments as a corporate attorney for Verizon, prompted the North-American Interfraternity Conference to elect this man to their Board of Directors in 1986.

Robert Swinney

Robert "Bob" Swinney Past President / Director Emeritus

A 1958 graduate of Oregon State University, with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.  Became a KDR in the Sigma Chapter in 1955.  After graduation, worked for the Colgate-Palmolive Co for 33 years, in both the U.S. and International divisions of the company.  Retired as V-P of Operations of C-P U.S.  Was a member of the National Fraternity Board of Directors 1996-2004.  National Fraternity President 1998-2001.

Joshua Smith

Joshua Smith, Alpha Beta 1993 - Director Emeritus

Joshua L. Smith, Alpha Beta '93, University of Delaware.  Josh is an intellectual property attorney with Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon, L.L.P. in Chicago, Illinois.  After graduating from the University of Delaware in 1993 with a B.S. in Business Administration, Josh attended Indiana University - Bloomington School of Law where he obtained his law degree in 1996.  Josh lives in the Deerfield, Illinois with his wife Lauren and daughters Arielle and Jordan.  Josh has been a director since 1992.

 

Nik Bonaddio, Tau '05 - Director

Nik Bonaddio Tau '05 is the Creative Director at Spongecell, an event promotion company founded in 2005. Prior to this position, he was at Yahoo, where he was the lead designer for the OpenID implementation as well as the lead designer for all Yahoo! payment and billing systems. Nik is a honors graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, with a Bachelors Degree in Information Systems/Communication Design in 2004, and a Masters Degree in Information Systems Management in 2005. During his time at Carnegie Mellon, Nik was awarded several AIGA Student honors and was a two-time All-American and fourteen-time All-Conference athlete.

 

Jonathan Boyle, Phi Beta ‘06 - Director

Jonathan joined the Phi Beta chapter at the College of William and Mary in the Fall of 2001. While in the chapter he held five different offices, including Pontifex and Alumni Relations Chair. He also served as the CFA Judicial Chair for two terms, helping to found and train a Fraternity-wide judicial board. From 2004-2006, he also served on the National Fraternity’s Board of Directors as an undergraduate director. He was also a Facilitator for the 2007 National Convention, and volunteered at the 2008 National Convention. Jonathan graduated in 2006 with a BS in Chemistry and Physics and is currently a graduate student in the Materials Science and Engineering department at the University of Delaware.
