Iota Chapter at Bucknell University recognition revoked until September 2012.

2/27/2009

On February 21, 2009, The National Fraternity of Kappa Delta Rho revoked the recognition of its Iota Chapter at Bucknell University for four years, effective immediately. The chapter's first opportunity to return to the Bucknell University campus will be in September 2012.

In early November, the Fraternity was alerted to an alleged hazing incident involving the chapter members and misconduct of the most serious nature and conscious violation of the principles the Fraternity was founded on.  The National Fraternity in collaboration with the Iota Alumni Association acted swiftly to begin an investigation, and worked closely with Bucknell University officials to gather information. From the National Fraternity’s judicial process and discussion with the chapter leadership it was found that there was merit to the allegations and indeed misconduct of the most serious nature and conscious violation of the principles the Fraternity was founded on did occur within the Iota Chapter this Fall semester.

The Brothers of the chapter who have been found to have violated the policies of the National Fraternity will be held accountable via individual sanctions, which may include permanent removal from membership. All Active members in good standing will continue membership as Alumni Brothers of Kappa Delta Rho.

Shawn Hoke, National President of Kappa Delta Rho, stated "The decision to close a chapter is not one that the National Board of Directors takes lightly. Unfortunately, however, it is one that is sometimes necessary. Chapters of the National Fraternity of Kappa Delta Rho, as well as their individual members, are expected to live up to the letter and spirit of the rules & policies of the Fraternity and to be responsible citizens & good neighbors with in their communities. While we are deeply disappointed by the need to close the Iota Chapter, we look forward to recolonizing the chapter and restoring its good name at Bucknell University and within the National Fraternity in September 2012."
